I downloaded Cyndi Lauper’s new album, Bring Ya To The Brink, from iTunes, on a whim. I’d heard nothing but positive things about the collection of dance music, said to rival even Queen Madonna’s latest album, Hard Candy. Is it 1985? Madonna versus Cyndi, head-to-head! I sampled the songs before purchasing, and was sold.

Last weekend was a record setting weekend at the box office. Batman broke almost every record a movie could break. But what does Batman have to do with pop music you ask? Absolutely nothing, it was simply just a segue, because there was another record broken this weekend and it wasn’t done by Batman. It was done by Mamma Mia. Mamma Mia had the biggest opening weekend for any musical – ever. Now what does Mamma Mia have to do with pop music? Everything! Mamma Mia is a film adaptation… Read more »

“Saturday Song” is a new section I will be writing each Saturday. Just a quick blurb and a song I think you should be listening to and have in your music collection.
Although JC Chasez’s solo attempt “Schizophrenic” was pretty much panned by not only the critics but the masses, being a fan of cheesy pop music I actually found some really great songs mixed amoung the horrible ones. One of them being “Something Special” which was actually the first track I heard from the album which led me to believe… Read more »

Since neither will ever rival Beyonce (cuz she’d CUT THEM), it’s sort of a head-to-head between Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams. I’ve always thought that Michelle was the prettier, but less interesting, of the two, and I’m not sure whether her new single proves me wrong, or just reinforces it. It’s good but truly fluff. Either way, I’m really into “We Break The Dawn”.

I usually pride myself on my musical choices, being discerning and critical and meticulous, but there are times when I find that the most ridiculous pop music just hits a sweet spot and I can’t get enough. Here are five tracks that are doing it for me at the moment:

Wow, I can’t even believe I’m sitting here writing this, but I’m totally in love with the new Miley Cyrus cd. I tried it out on a whim, not even hearing the first single - only on the fact that I loved “See You Again”. The album is sort of Lindsay Lohan meets Hilary Duff meets Avril Lavigne meets Meg & Dia. Did you get all that? It’s a lot to take in I know and you’ve probably never heard of Meg & Dia (a sister band that I vaguely… Read more »

“Cyberagga”
B-Side to the “Music” single.
This song is a brilliant electronic treat, and is Madge’s second to be sung in Sanskrit (following “Shanti/Ashtangi” from the Ray of Light album). Co-produced by the fabulous Talvin Singh, this song actually translates into an ode to eternal goodness for all mankind:
May all be well with mankind
May the leaders of the earth in every way
Protect the earth by keeping to the right path
May there always be goodness
For those who know the earth to be sacred
May all the world be happy
Whatever I do… Read more »

I believe it is important for people to follow-up with important matter. Matters of the heart, (how are you doing with that break-up?) matters at work, (how is that report coming?) matters of friendship, (how is the party planning for Dave’s birthday?), and matters of importance (how is the new Sophie album coming along?) So today, I will talk about one of those, and obviously, I really want to know how that report is coming….
Well since you’re ahead of schedule with that report, I will treat you with news about… Read more »

If you can afford it, summer is a great time cruising around with your friends with the windows down, sun roof up (if you happen to be so lucky), and listening to fun, easygoing music. This is where I come in. Below are ten of my absolute favorite summer songs, good for all your summer activities.
Janet Jackson “And On And On”
Very possibly my favorite summertime jam. I have loved this song for about fifteen years now, and it still resonates that feel-good summer vibe every time I hear it. Originally… Read more »
