Well, what does one say about ones self that doesn't sound completely contrived? I am a gay guy who loves music, and who is always ALWAYS looking for the next big thing. Sometimes, I get lucky and find it, and when that happens, I do my best to bring it to the masses. I have a pretty wide variety of musical tastes and interests, but it is safe to assume that if it is pop, I will probably be digging it. There are notable exceptions to that rule, but let's not start things off by being slanderous... there's plenty of time for that later. Being a long time lover of music, I absolutely love sharing my passion with others, so if that works for you, we will get along just fine.

Who I'm Digging

  1. A Camp
  2. Mat Kearney
  3. Elizabeth and the Catapult
  4. Passion Pit
  5. Silversun Pickups

Friday Five: New Discoveries for Q1 2009

May 22nd, 2009

First of all, I will state for the record; 2009 has been a damn good year for music so far. It is only May, and I already have 9 five star CDs that were released this year on my ipod. If this momentum continues for the rest of the year, it is going to be a pretty crazy year for music indeed. Today, I wanted to bring you 5 new discoveries of mine, that are helping make 2009 such a great year for music. Read more »

One To Watch in 2009: Passion Pit

May 19th, 2009

Last year, it was all about the resurgence of electro-synth-pop, with bands like MGMT and Cut Copy taking the spotlight, and becoming seemingly unstoppable. Well, this year looks like it is going to be no different, because Passion Pit is poised to take the reigns, and ride that carriage right into the spotlight themselves. Read more »

My top 10 albums of 2008

January 2nd, 2009

Without further adieu, here’s the list of my top 10 albums of 2008:

10 – Owl City – Maybe I’m Dreaming: ethereal pop made with fresh beats, airy pops, and delightful narrative stories and sweet vocals. If you like the Postal Service and Hellogoodbye, then Owl City will delight you. Favorite Track: Saltwater Room.

9 – Death Cab For Cutie – Narrow Stairs: as a major fan of Death Cab for Cutie’s sweet indie rock, this album did not disappoint. Filled with edgier tales of love lost and a lover scorned, this one… Read more »

Song of the moment – What I Cannot Change

December 18th, 2008

First off, I am going to start this off right… WOW. WOW, wow, wow, wow, wow. I had never heard this song before today, and all I can say, is wow. This song is epic. It is moving. It encapsulates everything that I could hope for in a song about family.

LeAnn, honey, I am right there with you. I will try to forget what I cannot change, but there is one thing I will not do, and that is ignore this amazing song any longer.

I heard this song today, because… Read more »

Steps Re-incarnated!

December 3rd, 2008

In case you have no idea who Same Difference are, I am proud to be the first to tell you about one of the best pop albums of 2008. This brother and sister duo fought hard in their time on X-Factor, only to be cut shortly before the finish line. They garnered many fans in their time on the show, and I knew it was just a matter of time before we heard more from this familial duo. Read more »

Sample War: Hilary vs. Jamelia

November 6th, 2008

In a previous entry, fellow Jiingo writer and music lover Shan professed his love for the newest Hilary Duff single, Reach Out. Despite his enthusiasm, and my own previous love for Ms. Duff, I have to say, that something just wasn’t sitting right with me and this song. See, a not-so-well known British artist by the name of Jamelia released a VERY similar record just a couple of years ago, and frankly I think that she used the sample better, and produced a better single as a result. Lady GaGa @ Bazaar Atlanta October 29, 2008

October 30th, 2008

Last night, I had the distinct pleasure of seeing the amazing Lady GaGa live, at a very intimate venue, the bar Bazaar, in Midtown Atlanta. The place was standing room only, and the place was packed with eager fans waiting to see Ms. GaGa take the “stage”.

We arrived early, so as to make sure we had a great view, and ended up being in the front “row”. After waiting a couple of hours, the white limo pulled up outside, and the tension in the room grew; we were ready for… Read more »

Y’all Betta Shut Up!

October 14th, 2008

… and listen up!

Rarely, at least for me, does an artist live fully up to the hype that they receive; especially when they are so readily praised by almost everyone under the sun. I seem to be one of those people that often “doesn’t get it” while others are clearly seeing something that I do not; or perhaps I am just more skeptical to call someone the “next big thing” because I believe that title should be reserved for only those that truly are worthy of being amongst one of… Read more »

Changes are coming from Will Young

September 26th, 2008

I have been a major fan of Will Young’s since his utterly brilliant last release, Keep On; a rare album, in that it doesn’t have one bad track on it. The combination of pop, soul, and jazz all wrapped up with a swoon-worthy voice is the hallmark of Will’s sound; one that he mixes effortlessly into well crafted, and carefully worded songs about love and loss. Will Young truly is a breath of fresh air for the pop scene, and he is about to release another potentially fantastic album.

listen to this: it’s Beyonce Jr.!

August 20th, 2008

Just kidding… it’s not really Beyonce Jr., but it’s almost like that; it’s her little sis, Solange!

Now, after a failed first attempt at pop music stardom, Solange has been getting some real attention this time around with her “new” old-school sound. While the first single, I Decided didn’t really speak to me, Solange got my full attention with the dance-floor ready, disco-tastic song, Sand Castle Disco.

Take a look at the video (after the cut), and tell me that you don’t love this song. And… the best part? It is a… Read more »
