I'm currently working full-time as a hotel front desk clerk and night auditor. Music is a passion that I have, and my styles of interest vary greatly, as I hope readers will discover as time goes on. Dance and circuit have been my preferred styles for ages, but lately I've found myself grooving on more smooth, chilled selections. I'm a Taurus, floating through life on charm and instinct, and looking for love in all the wrong places, just like Waylon Jennings. I try to keep a positive spin on life, and am generally looking for the silver linings. I hope you dig what I'm into, and if not, will at least give it a chance. I do what I can! Peace.

Keeps Gettin’ Better

November 17th, 2008

This past Wednesday, I found myself in a Target store with the intent and purpose of picking up Christina Aguilera’s first greatest hits compilation, Keeps Gettin’ Better: A Decade of Hits. I was offered up two choices: the single disc edition, or the deluxe edition with a bonus DVD of a handful of Xtina’s greatest videos. Clearly, the deluxe edition was the winner.

That night my best friend and I partook in the videos, and what a treat it was! From “Genie In A Bottle” (and that weird blue-fringe shirt)… Read more »

Discover Micky Green

November 6th, 2008

Prior to last week, I’d never heard of Micky Green. Then, by chance, the (second) video for her song “Oh!” came across my laptop screen, and I decided to give it a chance and take a listen.

The simple beat, finger snapping and smooth vocals were soothing to my ears, and a nice break from the usual boom-boom-boom bass I’m often zoning out to. I found her album, and was very nicely surprised by what it offered.

White T-Shirt is a modern, yet bare bones, collection of songs. Each somewhat subtle and haunting,… Read more »

Lovin’ This Song Long Time

October 30th, 2008

While randomly flipping through the television stations a few weeks ago, I noticed that everyone’s favorite eternal twelve-year-old, Mariah Carey had a new video playing on BET. Routinely bored by her recent work, but with nothing on in the afternoon hours before work, I decided to stop and take the song and video in.

I thought the song was rather decent, and decided to download it at work that night. I haven’t given so much ear space to a Mariah Carey song since the beginning of the Emancipation-era with “It’s Like… Read more »

Bitter or Sweet?: Ricky Takes On The Sticky & Sweet Tour

October 29th, 2008

Jiingo-creator and one of my closest friends, Shan and I headed north for an overnight trip of Madge-tastic proportions. We were seeing the Lady for the second time together (our first was the Drowned World Tour when we were eighteen and fresh out of high school), but it was my fourth time witnessing her awesomeness in the flesh.

She was only an hour late this evening, a step-up from the extra hour-and-a-half I waited during the Confessions Tour. Her intro to the stage was a major letdown compared to how she debuted on… Read more »

If you’re a fan of dance remixes, or campy club affairs, then you’ve more than likely run across some of the excellent work produced by Thee Werq’n B!tches. You Don’t Know Madge!

October 25th, 2008

Madonna, as an entertainer, is not underrated. However, over the course of her twenty-five year career, many songs get left behind in the mainstream due to the wacky things she does or says. With Jiingo creator Shan and I trekking north to see Her Madgesty tomorrow, I’ve compiled a list of the most, in my opinion, underrated Madonna songs. For all the hardcore Madge-Addicts, check it out and share your own choices. For subtle fans, take a look and find some lost treasures!

Hard Candy Breaks Down

October 12th, 2008

I can never get enough of the hot breakdowns from the Pharrell Williams’ produced tracks on Madonna’s latest album, Hard Candy.

“Candy Shop” - “Stick-stick-stick-sticky and sweet/My sugar is RAW/Sticky and Sweet/My sugar is RAW/DANCE!” The beat won’t quit, and even detractors of this old lady’s pussy song give props to that dirty breakdown.

“She’s Not Me” - I just want to give props to all the hand clapping and whistle-toots!

“Incredible” - “It’s time to get your hands up/It’s time to getcha body movin’/It’s time to getcha hands up/it’s time to… Read more »

The Way Is Random

October 11th, 2008

I often have my iPod on shuffle, regardless of where I may be at that moment. Whether it be in the shower, chilling in my bedroom, driving, generally being sexy, I never know what song may become part of the soundtrack to my life.

Shuffle is great, and I regularly find myself rediscovering things I had only gently paid attention to in years past. Here I’d like to recommend some nice finds, refound during the shuffle that is my life.

Princess Superstar - Meet You Halfway (Keep It On The Alright)

Your Inner ‘Nasty Girl’

October 5th, 2008

There was a time in my life when I was instantly intrigued if I saw the name Peter Rauhofer attached to any project. Such was the case when his remixes for Inaya Day’s cover of Vanity 6’s “Nasty Girl” were serviced. I knew the song was a cover, but had never fully heard the original track, and thus, fell deeply in love with Inaya’s version.

Two mixes were released by Rauhofer: Rauhofer’s Sleaze Mix [8:17] and Peter’s Reconstruction [9:49]. Both productions were epic, industrial treats to my ears, but it was the… Read more »

We Got The ‘Magic’

October 4th, 2008

I casually decided to pick up Robin Thicke’s sophomore release, The Evolution of Robin Thicke, around Easter of last year. Eighteen months later, it is one of my favorite albums by a male artist, perhaps ever. I was surprised and delighted when I found out “Magic” was being released as the first single from his third album, Something Else

The opening strings are just brilliant, and the smooth soul refrains throughout this R&B/Pop confection just do not disappoint. I love the music, melody and lyrics. Thicke is basically singing to his… Read more »
