If you were going to gauge the brilliance of the Sugababes’ sixth studio album from the title and lead single, “Girls,” you would expect all sorts of insane, fun antics. In fact, the ‘babes have been known to forge their own path in Pop music, never afraid to get their hands (or knees) dirty with their funky sounds. Trouble is the last album strayed the furthest from their unique sound and more into mainstream Pop music. Now this isn’t to say that it was a let down, but a question of whether or not the ‘babes had lost the edge that fans have come to love? Now with that being said, we believe that we have definitely been misled to believe in one sort of album, but after the disappointment dissolves, we are left with an album that is full of surprises. Ask any of my friends, I’m crazy about my CD collection. I don’t believe in digital downloads in terms of owning an album. I like the physical existence and adding it to my shelves of music. I love when people come over and browse my collection and ask me questions and opinions about the music I own. Then there are the albums that I’m embarrassed about. There are all sorts of reasons why I would be embarrassed about owning an album, but these are the 5 that peak the list. Read more »

Joining my ever growing list of albums out by the end of the year is Beyonce. Now before I get into this, I must say, I am more annoyed by Beyonce’s music than I have been impressed. I was a big fan of Destiny’s Child since the whole “Say My Name” era, but around the time of “Bootylicious” Beyonce became her own planet. It was only natural to see her spread her wings and try to win us over on her own. And did she ever! “Crazy In Love” was that song that could drag even the grumpiest person onto the dance floor. There was a hook like none other, and thus, a star was born. Read more »

I feel that the last month has been slightly disappointing for music. I’m constantly trying to find something new and exciting to keep me entertained until all the favourites drop records by the end of the year. I’ve also been known to eye on the door for the next big thing. Today’s Friday Five includes tracks I’ve discovered over the last month that I declare as brilliant.

For Round 2 of Pop Topics, I’ll be discussing the brilliant album that was due out this month, but instead got slammed back 6 MONTHS! I know, somebody hates her (maybe it’s your GF). Familiar faces from the UK are releasing albums before year end, and I wonder if the media will stir up another rivalry that will be had out in another Aerosmith cover. I’ve got a new girl that you MUST hear and have I gone crazy and allowed Shiny Toy Guns to redeem themselves? Plus, enjoy Alanis’… Read more »

You’ve probably heard the song ‘February Air’ on an Old Navy commercial, or maybe you’ve heard the catchy electro-ballad ‘Drive My Soul’ but either way, you’ve just heard the amazing and talented Valerie Poxleitner of Canada. She goes by “Lights” and her music has slowly been making its way into mainstream madness.
I was first introduced to her stuff by a friend back in August, and insisted I hear this track, ‘Drive My Soul’. Upon hearing it, I was completely floored and over the course of the next couple weeks, I… Read more »

I’ve noticed I’m compelled to write a lot lately about a large number of things. The only problem with all of these things is that I do not have a lot to say about them. So instead, I’m putting together a brief on pop music news that is relevant to you. This is partially to test the waters to see if something like this is well received or if it is preferred to stick to more specific posts. Here we go….
Pop Topics today includes a taste of what is coming… Read more »
