If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a hundred times. I love Alphabeat! I discovered them when they were still indie and fell in love. My favorite song from the beginning has always been “What is Happening?” so I was uber-excited when I saw they were releasing it as a single. The video, however somehow flew under my radar. I thought perhaps there wasn’t going to be a video as they’ve just about released every song from the album and that it would be a club/radio only release as their are a bunch of great remixes for this release as well. Awhile back I reconnected with some of Robyn’s old albums, back in the day I was a fan of some of her singles, “Show Me Love”, etc. Recently I’ve rediscovered some of her older stuff like “Electic”, “Keep This Fire Burning” and “Psycho” from her older albums. Truly great pop stuff, even if she was being produced to the masses. Her catalog speaks masses, typing Robyn into my iTunes turns up over 130 songs, remixes, and b-sides. I can’t get enough or Robyn to say the least. Read more »

This is officially the cheesiest pop song in all of pop song history. Feel free to leave comments with contenders, but honestly you can’t cut this cheese with a knife. In just three minutes they manage to pack it all in, and if the title doesn’t just scream “POP!” I don’t know what does. If you are ever feeling a little blue, just put this song on and you are guaranteed to crack a smile even if it’s at the sheer insanity of it’s poptasticness. Read more »

Today’s some is another one of my random discovery’s from several years ago. I originally discovered this band under the name “The Modern” and they were getting some radio play over in Europe I believe and then for some reason they decided to change their name to “Matinee Club” and then they kinda just seemed to fall off the radar, or at least my radar anyways. I think it was a bad career move personally, and I just read up on their Wikipedia that they recently decided to go back to… Read more »

I recently had a few dates with a guy who pretty much loved all types of music but absolutely despised Macy Gray. I enjoyed giving him a hard time by telling him I was going to make him a “Best of Macy” mix cd (In actuality I made myself one a few years back!). I couldn’t fault him because I have an equal distaste for Mariah Carey. Yes, I did just say that, it’s out there and I’m willing to take the hate mail. Bring it.
But Mariah is not why… Read more »

One of the PR companies we have been working with sent over this group (three girls) a couple of days ago and were eager to us to throw these girls a review. As long as we fall in love with the music we are more than happy to oblige! And these these three girls from Scandinavia are hot hot hot!
At first listen I thought they had a bit more of an M.I.A. meets Peaches sound, then the more I listened I realized they had more of a CSS meets The… Read more »

If ya’ll haven’t heard this track yet give it a listen. I was surprised and shocked to see that Ace of Base was making a comeback as a threesome! I did not know this but was uber excited when I came across their new version of “Wheel of Fortune” for 2009 off their soon to be greatest hits. I used to be a huge Ace of Base fan, and I might have caught a lot of shit for it in high school but I was a fan regardless. The single… Read more »

With the election just a few days away I thought it would be a great idea for a Friday Five of political pop songs! These are some of my favorites and thanks to the other Jiingo authors for suggestions for this list. It was harder than I thought to come up with just five although I’m sure there are plenty out there. Read more »

On our way back from seeing Janet Jackson in concert last month Ricky asked me if I had heard Christina’s new version of “Genie in a Bottle”. All he had was the live version on his iPod but he played it for me anyways and my ears were pleased. Since then I’ve been curious to hear the real thing. Today a 30 second clip of the studio version came online and I thought I’d share it with you guys. Thoughts? I love it! I’ve always been a fair-weather Christina fan… Read more »

Wow. I have to start off by saying that I’m kinda over the pop songs referencing classics. Rihanna did it best with her S.O.S. remixes, and everything since then has been rather sub par but damn if Hilary Duff’s new single “Reach Out” isn’t hot. It samples “Depeche Mode - Personal Jesus” and at first I wasn’t impressed because of the sampling but the video just premiered today and sold me. Hilary looks phenomenal, dare I say Kylie-esque? The lips, the outfits, the styling for the video all perfect. I… Read more »
