In the forum: Whatever happened to...

Thank you, hype machine.

August 22nd, 2008 | Posted by Simon

In honor of today being my first day as a proud employee of Apple, I thought it would be fun to take a look at some of the great music to which America, and the world, has been introduced through the ubiquitous iPod ads.  Yes, some of the bands were known in their own right before Apple happened to them, but no one can say an iPod ad isn’t one of the best legs-up an artist can get, in terms of high-velocity publicity.

…and so:

I would definitely add Coldplay’s Viva La Vida to this list; not only did it make me fall in love with that song, but it made me actually buy a Coldplay record. I have hated them for a long time, and found myself loving their new album… all because of some apple love.

congrats on the job, also … it’s true, I can’t lie … the ipod ads have turned me onto a few songs. Although not in the last year … as I do not watch television. Awesome post.
