Oh boys…

Posted by Justin on March 10th, 2010 | No Comments

In what may be the most untimely and ironic song ever, Cheryl Cole’s last single featured a b-side entitled Boys, written by Adele – yes, that Adele (I would kill someone to hear her demo of this song!). I just find it funny that with the shit-storm that is Cheryl’s personal life currently, this song is basically about how boys are shit but girls can’t help liking (or loving) them. Even funnier that the rumors circle that Cheryl may give her dirtbag hubby another chance. It’s so Elin Nordegren of her, right? Wrong. Chezza, as she’s referred to in the UK press, needs to beat her husband down, Tiger Woods style.

And another frivolous note about this song is that I feel it LITERALLY sounds like Shania Twain or could have been plucked from her back catalogue. Or that Shania should sing this and Cheryl sing the ever-appropriate Whose Bed Have Your Boots Been Under?

Cheryl Cole – Boys

Cheryl’s new single Parachute is out next Monday, with a new b-side titled Just Let Me Go and remixes of the single by Ill Blu, Buzz Junkies and more. She’ll also be on Radio 1’s Live Lounge this Friday singing Parachute and presumably a cover version, a tradition of most acts who visit the program.

Sophie Ellis Bextor, Bittersweet

Posted by Justin on March 9th, 2010 | No Comments

Despite my belief that Sophie Ellis Bextor doesn’t DESERVE the behemoth track that everyone is crapping their pants over (yet, we’ve still not heard the original track…hmmm, remember the difference between Kylie’s The One on the album and then the Freemasons’ tweaked mix? Yah…good!), I’ve decided to just go ahead and swallow my own bitterness and present the Freemasons Remix Edit  of Bittersweet. Go here to get the Jodie Marsh remix!

Video: Juliette Lewis – Uh Huh

Posted by Shan on March 9th, 2010 | No Comments

I am a big Juliette Lewis fan, both as an actress and a singer. She’s unique in a “I don’t give a fuck” way which makes me appreciate her all the more.

I’ve been following her music career ever since I randomly picked up her EP with the Licks while I was in New York. I think that EP Like A Bolt of Lightening… was probably their best effort. It was raw and real. Then her career with the Licks took a slow dive from there. The first album Your Speaking My Language came out and had a few good hits but the few songs that had originally appeared on the EP had completely been stripped of all the good stuff and left me mostly disappointed. Finally their last album, Four on the Floor seemed rushed and all over the place and I didn’t get into it too much even though I keep it on my iPod.

Dan Black – mashup master

Posted by Justin on March 3rd, 2010 | No Comments

Dan Black is another Brit music maestro guy whose breakthrough hit was a mashup/cover of HYPNTZ, a mashup of Biggie’s Hypnotize and Rihanna’s Umbrella. While it probably would have been on his album UN, Biggie’s estate wouldn’t release the song to be officially released so instead of giving up – hell, he wrote his own lyrics on top of the beat and renamed the song Symphonies, which was Itunes free song of the week in December.

His album is a pretty good effort, just released on February 16, with 3 bonus tracks for the US version of the album. Symphonies has been released and the remix features Kid Cudi. However, he’s also just released Weird Science remix EP, featuring some great mashups like the one below. Definitely check out Black if you haven’t already. He’s fresh, yesh. The video for Symphonies is after the jump.

New video for the song Let Go. I want the dog in this video; he seems rather well-behaved.

Video: OK Go – This Too Shall Pass

Posted by Shan on March 2nd, 2010 | No Comments

I’m not an OK Go fan, I tried but they just aren’t my thing. I do enjoy the song A Million Ways though. I wish their music matched the awesomeness of their videos. Well, for me at least. I know they have legions of fans who appreciate both. Their new video for “This Too Shall Pass” is so well done. I’m not for sure if it was really all done in one shot or several cleverly edited shots, but it’s “wow” factor is a 10 none the less. Honestly, the song isn’t terrible, just not my cup-o-tea.

Ellie Goulding, Lights

Posted by Justin on March 1st, 2010 | No Comments

The highly anticipated debut by Ellie Goulding has come forth. Lights is a folksy, electronic jamboree filled with obscure lyrics, hooks and melodies that are catchy as hell and some pretty good beats. Check out both Shan’s review and mine after the jump, including our picks for outstanding tracks.
