Discover Micky Green

November 6th, 2008 | Posted by Ricky

Prior to last week, I’d never heard of Micky Green. Then, by chance, the (second) video for her song “Oh!” came across my laptop screen, and I decided to give it a chance and take a listen.

The simple beat, finger snapping and smooth vocals were soothing to my ears, and a nice break from the usual boom-boom-boom bass I’m often zoning out to. I found her album, and was very nicely surprised by what it offered.

White T-Shirt is a modern, yet bare bones, collection of songs. Each somewhat subtle and haunting,…

How do you like your Dannii?

November 3rd, 2008 | Posted by Justin

Well, Dannii returns to her chill-out sound again for what may be the umpteenth cover of Andrea True Connection’s 1976 disco classic, “More, More, More.”

Over the last few years, some of Dannii’s singles have been remixed as slow burns, thanks to Afterlife. My favorite being the said mix of “You Won’t Forget About Me,” which got all kinds of sexy as a samba track.

This recent effort is dubbed as the ‘Winter Chill Mix’ so I’m not sure if a regular mix will appear at some point or not. I will…

If ya’ll haven’t heard this track yet give it a listen. I was surprised and shocked to see that Ace of Base was making a comeback as a threesome! I did not know this but was uber excited when I came across their new version of “Wheel of Fortune” for 2009 off their soon to be greatest hits. I used to be a huge Ace of Base fan, and I might have caught a lot of shit for it in high school but I was a fan regardless. The single…

…Are you on your own?

October 31st, 2008 | Posted by Justin

Temperamental? Yes, me too.

This album is my winter album. Every song is a mini-soundtrack to an evening spent walking around a big city at night. After a lover disappoints; a partner breaks it off. The moment where you’re miserable and you need to be out among the living to feel like there’s some semblance of hope in ever finding love again, in being whole again. Sounds dramatic, but so’s this album.

I cannot count the times in college that I walked around at 2 a.m. with this album blaring in my…

Friday Five: Political Pop!

October 31st, 2008 | Posted by Shan

With the election just a few days away I thought it would be a great idea for a Friday Five of political pop songs! These are some of my favorites and thanks to the other Jiingo authors for suggestions for this list. It was harder than I thought to come up with just five although I’m sure there are plenty out there.

Christina Aguilera… Reincarnated

October 30th, 2008 | Posted by Shan

On our way back from seeing Janet Jackson in concert last month Ricky asked me if I had heard Christina’s new version of “Genie in a Bottle”. All he had was the live version on his iPod but he played it for me anyways and my ears were pleased. Since then I’ve been curious to hear the real thing. Today a 30 second clip of the studio version came online and I thought I’d share it with you guys. Thoughts? I love it! I’ve always been a fair-weather Christina fan…

Lady GaGa @ Bazaar Atlanta October 29, 2008

October 30th, 2008 | Posted by Duane

Last night, I had the distinct pleasure of seeing the amazing Lady GaGa live, at a very intimate venue, the bar Bazaar, in Midtown Atlanta. The place was standing room only, and the place was packed with eager fans waiting to see Ms. GaGa take the “stage”.

We arrived early, so as to make sure we had a great view, and ended up being in the front “row”. After waiting a couple of hours, the white limo pulled up outside, and the tension in the room grew; we were ready for…

Lovin’ This Song Long Time

October 30th, 2008 | Posted by Ricky

While randomly flipping through the television stations a few weeks ago, I noticed that everyone’s favorite eternal twelve-year-old, Mariah Carey had a new video playing on BET. Routinely bored by her recent work, but with nothing on in the afternoon hours before work, I decided to stop and take the song and video in.

I thought the song was rather decent, and decided to download it at work that night. I haven’t given so much ear space to a Mariah Carey song since the beginning of the Emancipation-era with “It’s Like…

Jiingo-creator and one of my closest friends, Shan and I headed north for an overnight trip of Madge-tastic proportions. We were seeing the Lady for the second time together (our first was the Drowned World Tour when we were eighteen and fresh out of high school), but it was my fourth time witnessing her awesomeness in the flesh.

She was only an hour late this evening, a step-up from the extra hour-and-a-half I waited during the Confessions Tour. Her intro to the stage was a major letdown compared to how she debuted on…

A Roisin by any other name

October 28th, 2008 | Posted by Justin

If you don’t know who Roisin Murphy is,
I won’t be surprised. My lack of surprise shall be mixed with a little sadness and a little excitement. Sadness that Murphy’s name and music haven’t caught on fire the way they should; excitement because here’s my chance to plug/plug/plug.

Raise your hands if you remembered Moloko. No? “Do you like my tight sweater?” No? Fair enough. Well, Murphy and boyfriend Mark Brydon formed together in 1994 for what was just really a goof in the studio. However, a label picked up their…
