Keeps Gettin’ Better

November 17th, 2008 | Posted by Ricky

This past Wednesday, I found myself in a Target store with the intent and purpose of picking up Christina Aguilera’s first greatest hits compilation, Keeps Gettin’ Better: A Decade of Hits. I was offered up two choices: the single disc edition, or the deluxe edition with a bonus DVD of a handful of Xtina’s greatest videos. Clearly, the deluxe edition was the winner.

That night my best friend and I partook in the videos, and what a treat it was! From “Genie In A Bottle” (and that weird blue-fringe shirt)… Read more »

Sugababes – Catfights and Spotlights

November 13th, 2008 | Posted by Ryan and Simon

If you were going to gauge the brilliance of the Sugababes’ sixth studio album from the title and lead single, “Girls,” you would expect all sorts of insane, fun antics. In fact, the ‘babes have been known to forge their own path in Pop music, never afraid to get their hands (or knees) dirty with their funky sounds. Trouble is the last album strayed the furthest from their unique sound and more into mainstream Pop music. Now this isn’t to say that it was a let down, but a question of whether or not the ‘babes had lost the edge that fans have come to love? Now with that being said, we believe that we have definitely been misled to believe in one sort of album, but after the disappointment dissolves, we are left with an album that is full of surprises. Discover Micky Green

November 6th, 2008 | Posted by Ricky

Prior to last week, I’d never heard of Micky Green. Then, by chance, the (second) video for her song “Oh!” came across my laptop screen, and I decided to give it a chance and take a listen.

The simple beat, finger snapping and smooth vocals were soothing to my ears, and a nice break from the usual boom-boom-boom bass I’m often zoning out to. I found her album, and was very nicely surprised by what it offered.

White T-Shirt is a modern, yet bare bones, collection of songs. Each somewhat subtle and haunting,… Read more »

…Are you on your own?

October 31st, 2008 | Posted by Justin

Temperamental? Yes, me too.

This album is my winter album. Every song is a mini-soundtrack to an evening spent walking around a big city at night. After a lover disappoints; a partner breaks it off. The moment where you’re miserable and you need to be out among the living to feel like there’s some semblance of hope in ever finding love again, in being whole again. Sounds dramatic, but so’s this album.

I cannot count the times in college that I walked around at 2 a.m. with this album blaring in my… Read more »

Lovin’ This Song Long Time

October 30th, 2008 | Posted by Ricky

While randomly flipping through the television stations a few weeks ago, I noticed that everyone’s favorite eternal twelve-year-old, Mariah Carey had a new video playing on BET. Routinely bored by her recent work, but with nothing on in the afternoon hours before work, I decided to stop and take the song and video in.

I thought the song was rather decent, and decided to download it at work that night. I haven’t given so much ear space to a Mariah Carey song since the beginning of the Emancipation-era with “It’s Like… Read more »

Jiingo-creator and one of my closest friends, Shan and I headed north for an overnight trip of Madge-tastic proportions. We were seeing the Lady for the second time together (our first was the Drowned World Tour when we were eighteen and fresh out of high school), but it was my fourth time witnessing her awesomeness in the flesh.

She was only an hour late this evening, a step-up from the extra hour-and-a-half I waited during the Confessions Tour. Her intro to the stage was a major letdown compared to how she debuted on… Read more »

You Don’t Know Madge!

October 25th, 2008 | Posted by Ricky

Madonna, as an entertainer, is not underrated. However, over the course of her twenty-five year career, many songs get left behind in the mainstream due to the wacky things she does or says. With Jiingo creator Shan and I trekking north to see Her Madgesty tomorrow, I’ve compiled a list of the most, in my opinion, underrated Madonna songs. For all the hardcore Madge-Addicts, check it out and share your own choices. For subtle fans, take a look and find some lost treasures!

Thursday, Throwdown

October 23rd, 2008 | Posted by Christopher

There are a couple of bands that are really jiving with my chi. I’ve fully been working overnights doing Xmas setups at the department store — and the IPOD filled with this kind of stuff has helped a horrid experience become like a hot-knife through hemp-butter. Read more »

Ladyhawke - Debut, reviewed.

October 21st, 2008 | Posted by Christopher

I’m feeling blue. I don’t usually do a bad review. Mostly because it leads to BORING reading. This album is NOT BAD! It’s just, lackadaisical. I want to squirt petro onto the fire, but I wouldn’t do that because I burnt myself as a child spraying hairspray and lighting a match. No, that’s not why I have bad spelling and grammar. I’m an artist, not a dictionary. McCoy would be jealous … except, he used Doctor … never mind, I digress. Read more »
