Keeps Gettin’ Better

November 17th, 2008 | Posted by Ricky

This past Wednesday, I found myself in a Target store with the intent and purpose of picking up Christina Aguilera’s first greatest hits compilation, Keeps Gettin’ Better: A Decade of Hits. I was offered up two choices: the single disc edition, or the deluxe edition with a bonus DVD of a handful of Xtina’s greatest videos. Clearly, the deluxe edition was the winner.

That night my best friend and I partook in the videos, and what a treat it was! From “Genie In A Bottle” (and that weird blue-fringe shirt)… Read more »

Sugababes – Catfights and Spotlights

November 13th, 2008 | Posted by Ryan and Simon

If you were going to gauge the brilliance of the Sugababes’ sixth studio album from the title and lead single, “Girls,” you would expect all sorts of insane, fun antics. In fact, the ‘babes have been known to forge their own path in Pop music, never afraid to get their hands (or knees) dirty with their funky sounds. Trouble is the last album strayed the furthest from their unique sound and more into mainstream Pop music. Now this isn’t to say that it was a let down, but a question of whether or not the ‘babes had lost the edge that fans have come to love? Now with that being said, we believe that we have definitely been misled to believe in one sort of album, but after the disappointment dissolves, we are left with an album that is full of surprises. Miami Horror, released!!!

November 13th, 2008 | Posted by Christopher

I never thought I’d see the day — and I’m sure neither did he, where 22 year old DJ/Producer from Melbourne would see his own EP come to fruition.  It is indeed being released TOMORROW! (The 14th of NOV.2008).  I couldn’t BE more thrilled.

You probably mosly know Miami Horror♥ from some pretty smashingly hot and superfresh retro inspired remixies … filled with synth, killerhooks and dancyness!

He’s remixed bands like Pnau, The Presets, Faker, Datarock, Party and Midnight Juggernauts. In the space of a year, he’s turned megastar on the interwebs and blogosphere.… Read more »

One of the PR companies we have been working with sent over this group (three girls) a couple of days ago and were eager to us to throw these girls a review. As long as we fall in love with the music we are more than happy to oblige! And these these three girls from Scandinavia are hot hot hot!

At first listen I thought they had a bit more of an M.I.A. meets Peaches sound, then the more I listened I realized they had more of a CSS meets The… Read more »

Discover Micky Green

November 6th, 2008 | Posted by Ricky

Prior to last week, I’d never heard of Micky Green. Then, by chance, the (second) video for her song “Oh!” came across my laptop screen, and I decided to give it a chance and take a listen.

The simple beat, finger snapping and smooth vocals were soothing to my ears, and a nice break from the usual boom-boom-boom bass I’m often zoning out to. I found her album, and was very nicely surprised by what it offered.

White T-Shirt is a modern, yet bare bones, collection of songs. Each somewhat subtle and haunting,… Read more »

…Are you on your own?

October 31st, 2008 | Posted by Justin

Temperamental? Yes, me too.

This album is my winter album. Every song is a mini-soundtrack to an evening spent walking around a big city at night. After a lover disappoints; a partner breaks it off. The moment where you’re miserable and you need to be out among the living to feel like there’s some semblance of hope in ever finding love again, in being whole again. Sounds dramatic, but so’s this album.

I cannot count the times in college that I walked around at 2 a.m. with this album blaring in my… Read more »

Lady GaGa @ Bazaar Atlanta October 29, 2008

October 30th, 2008 | Posted by Duane

Last night, I had the distinct pleasure of seeing the amazing Lady GaGa live, at a very intimate venue, the bar Bazaar, in Midtown Atlanta. The place was standing room only, and the place was packed with eager fans waiting to see Ms. GaGa take the “stage”.

We arrived early, so as to make sure we had a great view, and ended up being in the front “row”. After waiting a couple of hours, the white limo pulled up outside, and the tension in the room grew; we were ready for… Read more »

Lovin’ This Song Long Time

October 30th, 2008 | Posted by Ricky

While randomly flipping through the television stations a few weeks ago, I noticed that everyone’s favorite eternal twelve-year-old, Mariah Carey had a new video playing on BET. Routinely bored by her recent work, but with nothing on in the afternoon hours before work, I decided to stop and take the song and video in.

I thought the song was rather decent, and decided to download it at work that night. I haven’t given so much ear space to a Mariah Carey song since the beginning of the Emancipation-era with “It’s Like… Read more »

A Roisin by any other name

October 28th, 2008 | Posted by Justin

If you don’t know who Roisin Murphy is,
I won’t be surprised. My lack of surprise shall be mixed with a little sadness and a little excitement. Sadness that Murphy’s name and music haven’t caught on fire the way they should; excitement because here’s my chance to plug/plug/plug.

Raise your hands if you remembered Moloko. No? “Do you like my tight sweater?” No? Fair enough. Well, Murphy and boyfriend Mark Brydon formed together in 1994 for what was just really a goof in the studio. However, a label picked up their… Read more »

Video: Hilary Duff - Reach Out (and Touch Me)

October 28th, 2008 | Posted by Shan

Wow. I have to start off by saying that I’m kinda over the pop songs referencing classics. Rihanna did it best with her S.O.S. remixes, and everything since then has been rather sub par but damn if Hilary Duff’s new single “Reach Out” isn’t hot. It samples “Depeche Mode - Personal Jesus” and at first I wasn’t impressed because of the sampling but the video just premiered today and sold me. Hilary looks phenomenal, dare I say Kylie-esque? The lips, the outfits, the styling for the video all perfect. I… Read more »
