This week I got my hands on the UK DVD release of Kylie’s X2008 tour. In a word: fantastic. The same word would be used when I heard that Kylie’s album, X, was nominated this past week for a Best Dance Album Grammy Award. So with that, we’ll honor the Minogue…well, the more popular one anyways (let the hate comments begin!)
So x2008: I’ll just go ahead and say that I might like this show even more than Fever, or at least just as much. Read more »

With the hullabaloo of the release of Britney’s Circus, I couldn’t help but be drawn in by all the extra tracks off this project. And then I thought, “Hell, Britney always has good b-sides or extra tracks - sometimes better than what’s on her albums.”
So I wanted to just list some of my favorites:
Don’t Hang Up - one of my favorite Britney songs ever. It’s the sweetness of her voice in the mid-tempo, two-step beat that I love.
Everybody - because of the sample of Eurythmic’s Sweet Dreams, I loved it, even… Read more »

In case you have no idea who Same Difference are, I am proud to be the first to tell you about one of the best pop albums of 2008. This brother and sister duo fought hard in their time on X-Factor, only to be cut shortly before the finish line. They garnered many fans in their time on the show, and I knew it was just a matter of time before we heard more from this familial duo. Read more »

I’ve recently stumbled across the knowledge that Mariah Carey’s latest album, the intelligently titled E=MC2, isn’t actually half-bad! I hadn’t listened to the record upon its release, as a sort of solidarity for my girl Madge, whose album was coming out two weeks after Mimi’s. However, seven months later, I got my hands on the aforementioned E=MC2. I think my curiosity came from two factors:
1) Compared to her previous outing, The Emancipation of Mimi, E=MC2 is somewhat of a ‘flop,’ despite being the sixth best selling album in the States this… Read more »

Let’s face it, Hilary Duff clearly doesn’t warrant a second compilation release, but in order to get out of her contract with Hollywood Records, she’s decided to do just that! And with this offering, we’re treated to two new songs, as well as three remixes.
The collection, which debuted at a staggering #125 on the Billboard charts in America, starts off with a bang, opening with Duff’s latest single, “Reach Out.” The hard, pounding beats and non-stop Depeche Modeness of it all makes it an instant winner in my book. I… Read more »

This past Wednesday, I found myself in a Target store with the intent and purpose of picking up Christina Aguilera’s first greatest hits compilation, Keeps Gettin’ Better: A Decade of Hits. I was offered up two choices: the single disc edition, or the deluxe edition with a bonus DVD of a handful of Xtina’s greatest videos. Clearly, the deluxe edition was the winner.
That night my best friend and I partook in the videos, and what a treat it was! From “Genie In A Bottle” (and that weird blue-fringe shirt)… Read more »

If you were going to gauge the brilliance of the Sugababes’ sixth studio album from the title and lead single, “Girls,” you would expect all sorts of insane, fun antics. In fact, the ‘babes have been known to forge their own path in Pop music, never afraid to get their hands (or knees) dirty with their funky sounds. Trouble is the last album strayed the furthest from their unique sound and more into mainstream Pop music. Now this isn’t to say that it was a let down, but a question of whether or not the ‘babes had lost the edge that fans have come to love? Now with that being said, we believe that we have definitely been misled to believe in one sort of album, but after the disappointment dissolves, we are left with an album that is full of surprises. One of the PR companies we have been working with sent over this group (three girls) a couple of days ago and were eager to us to throw these girls a review. As long as we fall in love with the music we are more than happy to oblige! And these these three girls from Scandinavia are hot hot hot!
At first listen I thought they had a bit more of an M.I.A. meets Peaches sound, then the more I listened I realized they had more of a CSS meets The… Read more »

Prior to last week, I’d never heard of Micky Green. Then, by chance, the (second) video for her song “Oh!” came across my laptop screen, and I decided to give it a chance and take a listen.
The simple beat, finger snapping and smooth vocals were soothing to my ears, and a nice break from the usual boom-boom-boom bass I’m often zoning out to. I found her album, and was very nicely surprised by what it offered.
White T-Shirt is a modern, yet bare bones, collection of songs. Each somewhat subtle and haunting,… Read more »

Temperamental? Yes, me too.
This album is my winter album. Every song is a mini-soundtrack to an evening spent walking around a big city at night. After a lover disappoints; a partner breaks it off. The moment where you’re miserable and you need to be out among the living to feel like there’s some semblance of hope in ever finding love again, in being whole again. Sounds dramatic, but so’s this album.
I cannot count the times in college that I walked around at 2 a.m. with this album blaring in my… Read more »
